From South Africa to You!

Check out all the incredible items we have just added to our African Collection.  We now have rare pieces from the Ndebele people who are known for their exquisite beading.  The Ndebele women create these works of art and their “dolls” are collected throughout the world.  We have added the Ndebele Bride Doll, Maiden Dolls and Fertility Dolls.

Also, we have added some wonderful new Zulu baskets.  The tradition of weaving has been around for centuries and past down from generation to generation and very little has changed since the beginning of the grass weaver. There are, however, fewer grass basket weavers in modern times as the younger generation are becoming more city dwellers.  We have baskets ranging from 24″ to 9″ tall and woven platters with intricate patterns.  Click on the map of Africa or on the menu to the right to see these unique items.

Finally, we have added hand carved wooden collectors boxes which are simply divine and a few original art pieces representing daily life.  Check them out today!

The touch, the feel, the smell……all reminders of a more simple, more diverse human culture.  These items are “must haves” for the person trying to create a more natural decor!

About Aslan’s Pride

Named after the gentle leader Aslan in C.S. Lewis’s famous Narnia series, Aslan’s Pride strives to be a fair and kind organization.  Aslan’s Pride believes in the “pride” - the family.  We are family-owned and operated and hold strongly to the vision that we are a part of one world family.

We scour the world looking for the best in ethnic handicrafts.  We honor the original artisans by sharing their stories and their culture with our customers.  In this way, we are helping to preserve their way of life for future generations around the world.  All of our products are handmade by native artisans using the same techniques that have been passed down through the generations.

Since everything is handmade, no two pieces are ever alike.  These natural variations do not affect the quality or look of the pieces, but instead add character.  Every piece is one of a kind.

To bring our family closer to yours, Aslan’s Pride not only has a website, but travels to shows with inventory to sell directly to our customers.  This way we can directly share our experiences, stories and products with our extended family.  Check our calendar of events and our blog for upcoming shows.
